Work with EasyLog products by establishing a USB connection and optimizing it with a set of settings and additional algorithms to ensure safe and fast data transfer. The suite supports EL-USB-5+ and is compatible with Windows 7, 8 and 10, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
EasyLog USB is a software tool used to set up and obtain data from various types of data loggers, mainly those needed to automatically record temperature, humidity, carbon monoxide, voltage and current values over a period of time. The software product is free but the hardware loggers logically have a price. Luckily, there is help documentation specifically written for every hardware model.
The whole process is wizard-driven, which makes it quite easy for the user, despite its evident technical complexities. When you start the program, you have three different choices. The first helps you set up the equipment and start collecting data. The second stops data gathering and downloads the resulting logs to your computer. The third helps you visualize previously recorded data.
Setting a data logger is quite easy. Needless to say, you first need to connect the hardware to your computer via USB. Then, you can start giving that particular logger a name to differentiate it from other similar equipment you may be using. Next, you can set how frequent the readings are to be logged. Then, if you are collecting temperature data, for instance, you should say which temperature scale you plan to use, Celsius or Fahrenheit. Also, since each equipment can store a limited number of readings, you should decide what to do when the logger is full. This includes stopping reading or overwriting previous logs. Finally, it is possible to set alarms for values higher or lower than the specified limits. The resulting logs are saved in a simple text format, which means that they can easily be exported to other programs.
Fortunately, the product comes with a built-in graph viewer, which can import the TXT files to create interactive graphs. Besides, it can also show basic statistics of the data being portrayed. These graphs can be shared by printing or exporting them to other formats, such as PDF, JPG and Excel. Likewise, the data can be converted to such formats as PDF, CSV and Excel. It is good that the product comes with various sample log files for you to try.
To conclude, EasyLog USB, together with the hardware, seems to be a wonderful solution to automate data collection for multiple uses, mainly those related to meteorological observations and environmental control. However, you have to be aware that the accuracy of the results does not depend only on the software but also on the hardware used to collect those data. In my opinion, its main drawback has to do with the way and the frequency data is transferred to your computer. The connection via a USB cable is not meant to be permanent, so, should you need to make uninterrupted readings, using a WiFi or Bluetooth logger could be a better choice. Luckily, the developer also sells such equipment.
